| ASI Hosts Reverse Trade Mission (July 1, 2012) In May 2012, the American Sheep Industry Association (ASI) hosted a reverse trade mission for Anil Goswami, manager of raw material purchases for Raymond Ltd in India. Raymond Ltd is the largest wool textile company in India and is a fully integrated, vertical worsted mill making world-class fabrics out of wool from 11.4 to 24.5 micron using approximately 6.5 million pounds of clean wool per year. They also have a India-wide range of more than 637 retail outlets and 47 outlets abroad that do both custom fit and off-the-rack men’s suits as well as export fabric to the United States and Europe. This was the first visit for Goswami to the United States, so he traveled with ASI International Consultant Barry Savage to facilitate introduction to U.S. exporters and get a better understanding of U.S. wool and its processing characteristics. They visited Center of the Nation Wool, Anodyne Inc., Roswell Wool and Lempriere. At the Roswell Wool May sale, he also met with Keese International and others involved in the U.S. wool trade. “It was my pleasure and benefit to have a very successful and informative visit to the United States. This trade mission has helped me a lot in understanding the various wool regions of the country and the very wide range of wools they produce,” comments Goswami. “We are looking to utilize U.S. wool in a specific men’s jacket program of ours for export and domestic sale. The lofty characteristics of U.S. wool make it very suitable for this end use.” “It is a testament to the promotional success of ASI’s international programs that one of the world’s largest, high-quality menswear manufacturers is interested to have their wool buyer visit the United States to improve their understanding of U.S. wool and include it in their programs going forward,” says Rita Kourlis Samuelson, ASI wool director. “We look forward to working with Anil and the Raymond staff to develop this men’s jacket program with them.” |
